A home and a better future
Sleaford Foyer in Linconshire, works with unemployed and homeless young people, aged 16-24, offering them a place to live with professional support on-site to help get their lives back on track.
Since opening in 1994 it has helped hundreds of young adults by providing a safe and pleasant living environment, and a pathway to independence.
The Foyer has one basic rule: staff will do all they can to support you and provide you with a home, provided you are willing to help yourself and take advantage of the help on offer.
As soon as you move in, staff help you draw up an individual action plan. This outlines the areas you want to develop, get help and advice and learn new skills while at the Foyer.
Who the scheme is for
If you are aged 16-24, unemployed and homeless, you can apply for a room at the Foyer. We also consider applications from young people referred through social services or local care agencies.
Residents typically live at the Foyer for up to two years before gaining the skills and confidence they need to move on and live more independently.
Help and support on hand
To help you find meaningful employment, long into the future, staff work with you to explore career options and help you find suitable college courses and local employment in your chosen field.
You will are also be given assistance in preparing to live independently and successfully in the future, receiving help for example with domestic skills and household budgeting.

- 14 private bedrooms with communal facilities such as bathrooms, self-catering kitchens, common room and lounge
- On site professionals trained in providing care, support and advice to young people
- A wide range of workshops, activities and outings designed to help develop social, personal and life skills, and improve employment prospects
- The opportunity to work towards various qualifications
- The chance to study at college or gain practical experience from local employers
- Help in finding somewhere suitable to live after leaving the Foyer
How it’s paid for
When you first come to the Foyer you may be entitled to benefits from the government, meaning your rent will usually be paid for through the Housing Benefit system.
As you gain employment and start to earn your own money so your benefit entitlement is likely to be reduced, meaning you will be in a position to contribute towards your rent yourself.
