SLEAFORD FOYER TRIO CELEBRATE PRINCE’S TRUST SUCCESS

Sleaford foyerThree young people in Sleaford are celebrating after successfully completing a challenging team-building course.

For 12 weeks, Joyce Du-Feu (18), Stacey Hudson (19) and Jason Meadows (22) took part in a range of voluntary community projects, charity fundraising and work experience placements, as well as spending an action-packed week at an Outward Bound adventure centre.

The three are clients at the LHA Support Services Foyer in Eastgate which works with vulnerable young people, aged 16-24.  It provides accommodation, along with professional on site support to put people’s lives back on track.

The Prince’s Trust ‘Team’ programme aims to improve the skills and confidence of unemployed young people, and awards a nationally recognised qualification to help them back in to work or training.

Stacey said: “The course was great, but very challenging.  It was full-time and like having a proper job.  You get to try lots of different things.  I enjoyed doing up a communal garden and making it safer for children.  I also chose to do my two-week work placement at a vets which was really interesting.

“I made lots of friends, and feel more confident meeting new people now, which will help me when I’m looking for work.”

As a reward for their hard work and commitment to the course, Patrick Taylor, Group Director of Support Services at LHA-ASRA presented the clients with high street vouchers at its head office in Leicester.

Patrick Taylor added: “Joyce, Stacey and Jason have had to overcome a lot of personal difficulties to complete this course.  On behalf of LHA Support Services, I’d like to say well done to each of them.

“It’s a great achievement and the skills they have developed through the Prince’s Trust programme will be invaluable in helping them pursue their own ambitions.”

Since opening in 1994, Sleaford Foyer has helped hundreds of young adults by providing a safe and pleasant living environment, as well as a pathway to independence.

It further offers support, advice and a wide range of workshops and activities to help develop social, personal and life skills, and improve employment prospects.
